Sunday is the perfect “Let’s eat in QC!” day. Last time I ventured to that area to eat was when we went to Nomama. That was a Sunday too. No traffic, no lines, lots of parking.
For this particular Sunday, we tried out the new Backyard Burgers along Sgt. Esguerra, right across ABS-CBN.
What’s with burger joints and car washes?!? Seriously. First Charlie’s Grind & Grill, now this. Is this a Paris Hilton thing?
Whenever I try out a new burger joint, I usually go for whatever has bacon in it. I was ready to order the Brekkie (100% smoked bacon patty, sunny-side up egg, hash brown) or the Heart Attack (1/2 lb. beef patty, crispy pork belly, cheddar cheese) but something else caught my attention. The Truffle Burger (1/2 lb. mozarella-stuffed beef patty, truffled shiitake mushrooms, cheddar cheese) and the Bo Peep’s Lamburger (1/3 lb. lamb patty, tomato, lettuce, bleu cheese).
Shut up. Just shut up. You had me at “mozarella-stuffed.” (cue Secret Garden)
Designer burgers usually rely on their add-ons to mask the blah-ness of their patty and bun. Not here.
The char-grilled beef patty in Backyard Burgers would actually do well with just tomatoes, lettuce, and onions (I think it’s called The Backyard Burger on the menu). And their freshly-baked hoagie buns aren’t bad either. But what I’m most impressed with is how they held back and not “over-truffled(?)” the burger. If this particular sandwich was a song, it would be Bittersweet by Kanye West with the Truffled Shiitake Mushrooms being John Mayer. If you’re not familiar with the song, listen to it. You’ll know what I mean. And yes, I just used a hip-hop song to describe a burger.
You’re next, Bo Peep. One of these Sundays…
I bet you taste just like Juicy by Biggie.
